In the “Beginwith” (A Faerie Tale Like No Other)

higher planes of reality, peering into us

tesseracts of fractalline anti-material

illuminating the abyssal plane

conceiving themselves,

they paused

posing the question erases the meaning

ever dividing the OM, infinities and PHIs to the nth degree

coincidentally,

the square root of zen is

3.141592653lightenment

when did when become when?

how did how become how?

and why did why become why?

and finally, how!

how did now become now?!

were you watching closely

WHEN NOW BECAME NOW?

it slipped from your grasp

like a paw full of sand

with patience comes lessons

in grasping the graspless

try being the sacred sand, instead of the human hand

maybe then you can grasp the concept, accept and understand

that you bodie is not yours, it borrowed from the land

you might even think of it as

a hand-me-down volkswagen van

calm your senses, heralding

that most ineffable mystery

of time slipping noiselessly

into the time behind time

forgotten by some,

but not by others

were you watching closely?

can. you. see. it. yet?

you may need some training

to achieve the stillness of saints

but i have the ancient medicine

to help us on our way

the ritual of time takes place on a bed

of sage and of citrus, of lavender and pine

cross your legs, think compassion, and ground thy spine

cautiously stalk your breath *inhale*, waiting for the holy moment arrive

observe the chatter of your life evaporating

next, there appears the sacred vortex, expanding exponentially

radiating geometries from the center of nothing

ushering in strange new colors of surprising intensity

until the jeweled jellyfish takes it upon himself

to enter the human realm, these entities can only be consulted

in a garden of 23-dimensional space.

Radiolarians & Sacred Geometry/Fractalline Structures

Radiolarians (also radiolaria) are amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons… - Wikipedia

A Radiolarian, while resembling an intricate calcified three-dimensional snowflake, is actually a type of zooplankton, a single celled protist that contains a tiny endosymbiotic phytoplankton which produces most of the it’s energy. Interestingly, these strangely crystalline-looking organisms are found to mimic a geometric series of solids knows as “the platonic solids”…thought by mystics/philosphers to be essential to explaining the laws which govern the universe. Some think that sacred geometry is a recurring pattern at various orders of magnitude (sub-atomic, atomic, molecular, and so on…) which can illustrate how less and less subtle forms of energy were eventually condensed into matter.

Article: Jack White Talks About The Furniture Business

The Believer is, without a doubt, my favorite semi-monthly pretentious arts/culture magazine. In this interview from the May 2003 issue, the Believer talks to Jack White about his early career in the upholstery business.

Listen to “Tethers” by Tara Toms & Family

Listen to “5 Years Time (Noah & The Whale Cover)” by Tara Toms & Family

Tara Toms. Some have called her the greatest songstress of this age, though I’m sure she would modestly deny this charge. It’s hard to describe Tara’s music, without resorting to labels like “minimalistic”, “lyrical”, “soft” and “melancholy”. Suffice it to say, Tara manages to channel the spirit of the backwoods (much like Fleet Foxes) through her lush/folky symbolism, transcendental themes and a peculiar holistic spiritualism. On Snap The Earth’s Way, she trades the lo-fi sound of her earlier work for a polished (and warm) studio sound. SNAP is her second LP, after We’re Swimming In It, this time featuring another local folk legend Justin Arawjo (of Raise Up Roof Beams & Old Time Burials). Mixed/Produced by Pat Berberich (Gliders Soar).

Music: Le Loup - Family (2009)

Listen to “Beach Town” by Le Loup

Listen to “Forgive Me” by Le Loup

For their sophomore debut, Le Loup puts on their sunday best and gives their sound a much needed dose of studio spit and polish. Clean, but not too clean. Dynamic, dense and generally restless. Alternately ghoulish and downright chipper. These adjectives don’t really do justice to the grandiose and somewhat schizophrenic sound of Le Loup. Suffice it to say, they’ve managed to hew in those rough edges just enough to make one fucking sick album. Keep an eye out for this on those Best of ‘09 lists. For the unfamiliarized, Le Loup’s Family sounds kinda like Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest (see: “Family” and “Go East”) with a dollop of Animal Collective on top (it’s subtle, except during “Forgive Me”) and the aroma of Fleet Foxes and Panda Bear. “Beach Town” especially retains a lot of elements of Person Pitch-era Panda Bear. Pitchfork may have snubbed Family, but I have a feeling they’re going to end up eating their words, like they did when they underrated In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Still, I’m at a loss as to how someone who’s versed in Le Loup’s unique flavor of sound could ever rate this album a 6.0. Their last album managed 7.3 and it really couldn’t hold my attention past the first few listens.

Listen to “Eagle Rock” by Pocahaunted

via namemesomeonethatsnotaparasite:

“Pocahaunted make scary music. (…) It’s all low level drones and voices from beyond the pail that clunk along in a shambolic, rootsified manor that Devandra could only dream of. It somehow sounds like some lost field recording of a bunch of Navajos subconsciously conversing with Anguta while hopped up on Mescal out in the middle of the dessert. They have been hand picked to support Thurston Moore and Sonic Youth and released a bunch of records on labels that you really should be familiar with by now like Not Not Fun and Ecstatic Peace! They currently have a split CDR with Robedoor out on the great UK label Blackest Rainbow. It scares the fuck out of me.”

Replace Mescal with Mescaline and I thoroughly agree! This duo (plus two?) has put out a prodigious volume of work in a few short years, synthesizing American-Indian percussive/drone influences with an esoterically New Age feel, ritualistic moans, raga-like scales and, most recently, aspects of “dub”. Their style drifts faster than a dead cowbow in white water.

Listen to “Drug A Wheel” by Bear In Heaven

Bear in Heaven is (currently) a four-piece with roots in both Alabama and Georgia. Beast Rest Forth Mouth is their third contribution to the eternal cosmic vibration. Songs are generally structured around a couple of tight-lipped (see: quick or short) melodies on guitar, with bizarre timbres and oftentimes altered time signatures. Surreally lyrical, jarring but not grating, sour but soft and well worth a listen.

As an album, their is a definite continuity and plenty of replay value. I’d recommend you pay attention to the last four tracks if you are in any way unsatisfied. “Drug A Wheel” seems to conjures up images of an ancient pagan sacrifice, performed by shamans under the influence of cyanic mushrooms. Or maybe that is just my drug-addled brain.

Music: Animal Collective - Fall Be Kind EP

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L6UKCKYN

http://sharebee.com/1421401f

The all-too-well-known troop of the Collective Animal, equal parts avant-garde and freak-pop, continue their steady pilgrimage toward the mainstream independent scene (oxymoronic, I know). If you were a fan of the kabbalistic howling and nails-on-the-chalkboard percussion from their earlier work, you’ll probably find this album a little tame for your tastes. But if you prefer the delicate harmonies, orchestral reverb and slower pace of Merriweather, this is probably right up your alley.

Personally, I think the guys were at their best during their Sung Tongs-era writing. But to each his own, I guess. IMO, the lyrics on this EP are worse than usual, but that’s not surprising when you consider this is really just a handful of outtakes.

Buy their next album (get it on vinyl, if you can) and see them live. You don’t know what you’re missing!
